My first taste of Campari was awful so I don’t know what tempted me to try it again but I’m glad I did.
Over the years my love for it has grown and I’m never without a bottle at home.
Weirdly most pubs also have it so without trying you can make a ‘poor man’s Negroni’ by adding it to gin if you have that bitter craving and a pint doesn’t appeal. If your thirst for bitters is extreme then Campari with a dash of Angostura Bitters (which most pubs also have) will fill the need.
To me Campari tastes bitter and sugary with slight woody and herbal touch but plenty of fruit flavour (especially oranges). It is a great drink and also works really work in sorbets or ices or combined with them- blood orange sorbert with ice cold Campari poured over it won my heart one hot day.
Drinks I love with Campari:
Campari and grapefruit
Campari and soda
Campari and Tonic Water
